Master en Ingénierie des Systèmes Complexes

Un « système complexe » peut être défini comme un système comprenant de multiples éléments possédant des comportements individuels différents et variables mais interagissant pour produire le comportement global du système. Cette définition, volontairement très générale, permet de saisir que de très nombreux systèmes industriels, environnementaux, biologiques et finalement humains peuvent être qualifiés de complexes.

Seul master de ce type sur le site, il ouvre ainsi aux métiers qui requièrent une expertise dans la conception et le pilotage de systèmes complexes pour lesquels une approche globale des processus en jeu doit être mise en œuvre. Le Master est conçu dans la tradition centralienne de nos formations, mettant l’élève au centre du processus, et l'impliquant dans de multiples activités professionnalisantes.

La langue de ce programme est l'anglais.


The Master’s in engineering of complex systems aims to introduce students to professions requiring expertise in the design and control of such systems to implement an overall approach to the processes in question. Two areas of activity are targetted, addressing environmental or biomedical issues.

The Master’s is designed in the tradition of the training offered by Ecoles Centrale, placing the student at the heart of the process, directly involved in multiple professionalising activities including soft skills. The Master program is accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education. It also contains some elective courses, remotely taught, shared with other higher institutions in Europe and around the Mediterranean basin.


+ Two seperate master's tracks are proposed: Environmental Engineering and Biomedical Engineering 

+ The master’s programme is taught in English

+ Soft skills are outcomes of the learning programme and represent more than one quarter of the total hours taught

+ The programme of study for both tracks lasts two academic years – denoted by M1 and M2

+ The master programme is open for both UE and non UE students

+ The Master’s programme is designed for undergraduate students holding of a 3-year Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) - with a strong background in sciences: licence/bachelor’s degree in physics, mechanics, applied mathematics, civil engineering, or engineering sciences

+ The 2nd year of this Master (M2) is directly available for students who have already validated their 1st year Master’s degree (M1) in their university (60 ECTS).

+ The master’s course is fully taught in English - B2 level (independent user) is required

+ The recruitment process is organized in three stages:

Career prospects

+ This Master's programme is designed to provide its students with the specialist knowledge and transferable skills to pursue careers in companies, global corporations or non-governmental organisations or for those interested by research to pursue their studies by a PhD.

+ This Master’s programme aims to train project manager engineers capable of managing complex projects.

+ Following the Environmental engineering master’s programme, typical careers involve the provision of high-quality environmental consulting services, performing research for complex planning and development projects, leading the definition and/or execution of environmental strategy, etc. Example of positions: engineer addressing air and water pollution monitoring, control and/or forecasting, landscaping for urban climate control, flood prevention, CFD for environmental/energy analysis, etc.

+ The Biomedical engineering master’s programme is designed for the main biomedical engineering specialities: biomechanics, medical imaging, biomedical instrumentation, orthopaedics, clinical engineering, etc. Your scientific & technical skills as well as those acquired in project management and change management will open up numerous employment opportunities, in particular in Research & Development engineering, consultant engineering, audit engineering, academic project engineering, and management.
